The real disaster is in the country

Nimbyism is costly in the cities where it now has a foothold , but its most unaffordable in the country where every dollar counts; where you really need each other to work together to fight common enemies ; where you can do wihout a personal fight based on protecting yourself and your livelihood from unwelcome intrusions.Government has created and fostered this isolation and blatant indifferenece to regional planning imperatives . It wasn't long ago when the states and the feds would mediate regional planning - now they just wash their hands of it or run around saying "we need more research" before we know its a problem - complete incompetence in both ledaership and those who pretend to practice risk management in the bush .

It only takes blind freddie a few second s to work out that a poly driven investment is real winner for most of us who are quicker than they are with money they don't have .

The big disaster for sound use of Australia's resources in this, is the hamfisted way in which tax breaks work to create change in what is a very sensitive environment- our backyard . .The feds and the states never had a plan of when and where ( NHT have funded lots of others-- so why not this ?) They have stopped those of us who tried to make that discussion happen, and, as predicted they are too slow to stop the quick and lively from making a grand quickbuck out of their slowness and carelessness with our money .
The big hammers were brought out to create big monoliths of blue shaped monocultures in places where diversity of decision making is critical.Rural people are rightly agrieved at this political and environmental carelessness that continues to go on all around them; even blaming them when the are forced to adopt current government policy on planning - everyneighbour for himself (http://nimbyism.blogspot.com) Plantations now cover up and interfere with diversity where they could and should have protected it.

Howards grand water plan

Now its conservatives turn to apply some balm to the hurting world . City type hype about water and how we will solve those peasants problems . Trouble is, not only does the city hurt differently from its country neighbours , but it is so far away from them it dreams up simple solutions that don't work or the innovations that really experienced risk managers thought of years ago. RERM deal with drought all the b.... time

-as for trading in buckets, Put one on your head dummies - its empty and the value of its contents is dependant on j curves too complex for you meddlers to even get the handle on and keep it ready for action when we need it .
Wait and see before you worry and spend our money on bandages.

Academics too with no vision, but to close things down? Hard work making decisions about something as simple as the environment! ?????

An academic on the world today last week had no answers for Australian Sugar farmers . "Get big" - they've got bigger . "get smarter" ( you name it they"ve done it ! ) we were waiting!
I don't know why he was there when he couldn't provide a direction for the future What was it less farmers bigger properties ? - he didn't say
Maybe he's just hoping the problem of poverty will go away - back to shores of Brazil where it doesn't matter if you pay peanuts. At least here in ausraila we have some hope of managing any env and other impacts from the sugar industry _ unless he'd like to come out and tell us what seroius eco and environ issues still remain undiscussed ? No that might reveal his ignorance in areas he pontificated on?

Dear meddling leaders
Why NOT have a good meddle with someones backyard who doesn't matter politically !
There will be no effective uproar by those who act as custodians for our resources - after all they
are irrelevant -at least politically ( http://fairgomate.blogspot.com) we might get elected .

It clearly doesn't matter if the peasants and the professionals get cut by all the careless talk - they don't
matter politically-- they are just wingeing farmers and their suspect friends -irelevant!

Between Bob Brown and Mark
Latham they know what to do ( in tas yesterday) - close down use of the land - its that simple!
Problems with something we don't like in the neighbours backyard ? -
Surgery and use of the environment is bad -
lets have none of it !
Dead easy mate--- problem solved . Stop others from using timber, now that we have got our own homes built . we'll look really good - we did standing their together ( for how long short trem gain -longterm pain) let the media / people decide

You are not alone .
Millions of people around the country experience the numbing stupidity of having someone outside the situation tell you how to manage your own land .you wouldn't mind if it made sense !
Whose responsible for the increasing failure of the palnning system to provide justice and reason - your leaders .

They are meddling with something too complex for them .
tell your story on http://ourland.blogspot.com
